Adam Nimoy’s Documentary to Debut at Tribeca Film Festival. Adam Nimoy’s documentary about his dad, Leonard Nimoy, is a project that Adam originally set out to do with his dad; but, of course, circumstance changed that. The project went on to become the most successful documentary project in the history of Kickstarter raising $662,640 from 9,439 backers. Now it’s done, and the premiere is coming up in April at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. We look at the project and the screening schedule. 4K HDR Wrath of Khan headed our way. Many fans have been waiting for new prints of the Star Trek films, which have been looking increasingly rough with each release. If you own the Blu-rays, you'll know that these movies don't look quite like what you expected when you dished out for the newer, high-definition format. Paramount is starting to do something about that—at least with the most popular of the films, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Polynesian Island Nation Issues New Stamps. The nations of the world are again honoring Star Trek with special issue postage stamps. We talked about Palau and Guyana, who have issued DS9 collections, Liberia, who has issued an Enterprise collection, and of course the U.S., who will have a special 50th anniversary stamp this year. Now we add to the list the small Polynesian island nation of Tuvala, whose new six-stamp sheet honors the women of Star Trek. Plus, there a single-stamp sheet for one very popular character. Star Trek Fans Outside U.S. Still Waiting for Details. CBS President Les Moonves recently made comments about interest from international distributors in the new Star Trek series. He said that international money will cover 60% of the production cost. Some took this as a sign that access to Star Trek 2017 will be plentiful for all, regardless of geography. TNG and DS9 Visual Artist Dies at 60. We’ve lost a lot of members of the Star Trek family over the past year, and it’s always sad. In many cases, we’ve lost those who worked on The Original Series, which is understandable as we’re now in the 50th year since that show premiered. But when we lose those who are much younger, it’s especially sad. And that’s the case with the latest loss, Gary Hutzel, who has passed away at the young age of 60. Star Trek: Mission New York Names Its Headliner. William Shatner is set to headline the CBS and ReedPop event that will bring the Trek con circuit back to its birthplace: New York City. The first Star Trek convention took place January 21-23, 1972, at the Statler Hotel, and, of course, it celebrated The Original Series. Eaglemoss Releases Enterprise 1701 Dedication Plaque. The starships that British replica maker Eaglemoss has been making over the past few years are fantastic. If we could zoom inside one of those ships, we'd find a little dedication plaque on the bridge. Luckily, for key Federation ships, they’ve produced replicas of those plaques as well. You can already hang those of the Enterprise-D, Enterprise-E, Enterprise NX-01, Voyager, and the Defiant on your wall, and now you can add the dedication plaque from the original 1701 to that collection as well. Star Trek Scenic and Graphic Designer Passes Away. The art department was critical to bringing Star Trek to life, and another member of the family has been lost. Anthony Fredrickson, who worked on The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Enterprise, Generations, First Contact, Insurrection, Nemesis, Star Trek: The Experience, Star Trek World Tour, and the Starfleet Medical Reference Guide, died of a heart attack on February 15. William Shatner might play Kirk again. Rumors were flying around for a long time that Shatner might appear in Star Trek Beyond as Kirk—and reportedly Orci, Payne, and McKay even had a story that included this. Those rumors were put to bed, and Shatner himself denied them as recently as last month in a Hollywood Reporter piece. But in a new piece from Hollywood Report—which draws upon an interview they did on their Awards Chatter podcast—Shatner says that he might yet return to play Kirk. Concept art reveals new starship from Beyond. From the Star Trek Beyond trailer we learned that there is a new Federation starship in the story called the U.S.S. Franklin. Saldana, Pine, and Urban talk Star Trek’s next film. The initial trailer for Star Trek Beyond has stirred up far more debate than Paramount probably expected. Trek leaves Amazon Prime. Is Netflix next? Fans of Star Trek who are also Amazon Prime subscribers may have noticed that a countdown to departure has appeared alongside the various Trek series. The Original Series, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise all show text that reads "Leaves Prime in xx days." The counter will reach zero on February 15, at which time this content will no longer be available on the Amazon Prime platform. This has caused a bit of a stir and cries of distress from many fans who rely on streaming to get their Trek. We share our thoughts on what the change may mean for the future of streaming Star Trek. Liberia issues stamps from the 22nd century. Recently we talked about DS9 stamps from Palau and Guyana and upcoming designs from the U.S. Postal Service. When it comes to stamps, TOS and DS9 are givens, as are TNG and Voyager. But what we’ve never seen before are stamps featuring Enterprise. But technology wasn’t always so standardized. We take a moment to remember another of the Star Trek family who we've lost, prolific character actor Jason Wingreen, who played Dr. Linke in the third-season TOS episode “The Empath.” Wingreen was also the voice of Boba Fett in The Empire Strikes Back, and appeared in episodes are countless TV shows between 1955 and 1994.
